Rutland Garden Studio
A garden studio and cycle workshop
Satish Jassal Architects has submitted plans to create a garden studio for cyclists to meet and to extend an existing garage to create a cycle workshop in the picturesque town of Ketton.
The garden studio is within the Ketton Conservation area and has been designed so that it is hidden within the garden. A green roof has been proposed allowing the building to blend into its surroundings. The use of limestone and oak windows are used to blend in with the local material vernacular. The garden studio frontage steps into the garden, and a large pivoting door opens the interior to the garden.
The garage has been extended to accommodate two cars, a space to repair cycles and for general storage purposes. Again the materials and the building form are used to blend in with the local vernacular.
A new garden has been created; one which can be used and enjoyed in a more meaningful way. Additional planting and lawn areas have been included, increasing the biodiversity of the site. A permanent oak bench and a stone table have been included in the garden design.
The existing garden is overshadowed and unused, and the car garage is small and not functional. Our proposal gives life and purpose to the site and creates a space where keen cyclists in the area and cycle visitors can meet together after a day of cycling.
