Tring House
A new home within the Decorum's Green Belt
Satish Jassal Architects has designed a new family home on the site of a former telephone exchange on the edge of the Green Belt in Tring, transforming a redundant and deteriorating structure into a high-quality rural retreat.
Set within a scenic landscape, the project responds to its sensitive location by carefully balancing openness and privacy. The design is oriented to capture expansive views across the adjacent fields, while creating a sheltered and secure private garden to the rear for family use.
The proposal maximises the relationship between the home and its surroundings, with living spaces arranged to frame key views and connect directly to the landscape. This approach ensures the house feels embedded within its setting while offering a calm and restorative environment away from the city.
The redevelopment of the site replaces a poor-quality, underutilised building with a carefully considered new home that enhances both the immediate context and wider landscape.
This project demonstrates how redundant sites on the edge of the Green Belt can be sensitively redeveloped to deliver high-quality housing, combining strong design with an appreciation of landscape and setting.
